milk thistle gaidouragathoSilybum Marianum is the scientific name for milk thistle. The active ingredient of the fruit of this humble plant is Silymarin, which consists of a mixture of flavonoids (Silybin, Isosilybin, Silydianin and Silychristin). Flavonoids belong to a potent group of active plant ingredients, whose effect on the skin have significant remedial effects.
When silymarin comes in contact with the skin:
• Because it is an extremely powerful antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals, preventing damage caused to the skin and thus used as an excellent anti-aging ingredient
• It soothes and moisturizes irritated skin
• The fatty acids it contains, create a thin protective film which retains moisture in the skin
• It creates a defensive shield, which prevents the ultraviolet rays of the sun – the main factor in premature skin aging – to cause damage to skin
